Dress Class

Small group class with maximum 3 participants ♦ Sewing machines, tools, personalized pattern & fabrics included ♦ Vegan pasta lunch included

Understand the construction of a dress and the sewing techniques needed to complete a design for your sewing level, using a pre-made pattern in your size – that you get to keep after the class and remake again and again! You can choose between some proposed styles. Sustainable fabrics, tools, domestic sewing machines and sewing instructions for home will be provided.

Option 1: Simple Dress Design

1 session of 8h (full day with 30 minutes break included) ♦ Cost: 195€

The project can be made as a very first clothing project, right after taking the Introduction Class. 

By making this design you will learn

♥ how to understand and work with commercial patterns;

♥ how to plan and cut for maximum fabric use;

♥ how to make simple pattern alterations;

♥ how to attach sleeves to a piece or make a finishing for a sleeveless design;

♥ how to finish the neckline on a dress, depending on shape;

♥ how to easily finish clothes’ bottom (also known as hem);

♥ troubleshooting & different tips and tricks for easy handling of the sewing machine;

♥ many other things you will understand in the process.

Colors and fabrics will always vary, as we work only with leftover materials. The designs shown are just examples. Your choice of fabric will give your dress your unique style. For a very particular vision you are free to bring your own fabric (please mention this when booking, so we can advise).

Option 2: Fitted Dress Design

1 session of 8h (full day with 30 minutes break included) + 1 session of 4h (on another day)  ♦ Cost: 295€

A fitted design is recommended only if you already worked on dresses before. If you would like a challenge and make this as your first dress project, you are welcome to join, but we cannot guarantee it will be completed in the given time.

By making this design you will learn

♥ how to understand and work with commercial patterns;

♥ how to plan and cut your fabric for minimum waste;

♥ how to adjust a dress to fit you better;

♥ how to translate the fit adjustments to the pattern;

♥ how to add a dress zipper, if needed;

♥ how to attach sleeves to a piece or make a finishing for a sleeveless design;

♥ how to finish the neckline on a dress, depending on shape;

♥ many other things you will understand in the process.

Colors and fabrics will always vary, as we work only with leftover materials. The designs shown are just examples. Your choice of fabric will give your dress your unique style. For a very particular vision you are free to bring your own fabric (please mention this when booking, so we can advise).

You will take home 

♦ a dress or top adapted to your style, created with your chosen fabric (provided by us or feel free to bring your own if you prefer);

♦ a paper pattern customized to your measurements;

♦ notions about fabric cutting, sewing and manipulation that can be applied to other projects;

♦ sewing & finishing techniques that you can apply also on other types of garments;

♦ a picture with you wearing your project (optional).

The classes take place in our shared upcycling atelier on Friedrichstrasse 23A, 10969 (close to Checkpoint Charlie).
